Plastic injection moulding for dental devices

Developing high-precision dental devices and looking for an injection moulding partner who can hold extreme tolerances?

Cemiplast designs and produces high-precision plastic parts for the dental sector in Switzerland. Its expertise in micro injection moulding has been demonstrated on demanding projects such as the Irriflex irrigation cannula.

A benchmark in plastic injection moulding for dental devices : Irriflex developped with Produits Dentaires SA

Cemiplast developed the Irriflex irrigation cannula with Produits Dentaires SA. This all-plastic root canal irrigation needle has two side openings with a diameter of 3/10 mm. Although other moulders and mould makers judged it unfeasible at the start of the project, more than 5 million units have now been produced. It is distributed worldwide.

Precision and reliability in plastic injection moulding for dental devices

Micro injection moulding makes it possible to produce dental components that sometimes weigh less than a tenth of a gram, with very tight tolerances. These requirements call for dedicated micro injection moulding machines, highly technical tooling and precise control of materials.

The Irriflex project shows Cemiplast’s ability to support a complex development over time, from the initial literature search to industrial validation. Cemiplast relies on its partnerships with Swiss universities of applied sciences and preferred mould makers. These partnerships help overcome technical obstacles that other players considered impossible.

In plastic injection moulding, dental devices often combine very small dimensions with high compliance requirements. Cemiplast, ISO 13485 certified since 2016, builds these requirements into the part from the design stage.

Frequently asked questions about plastic injection moulding for dental devices

The Irriflex cannula is developed and produced by Cemiplast in partnership with Produits Dentaires SA. More than 5 million parts had been produced by the end of 2023.

Cemiplast produced openings with a diameter of 3/10 mm on the Irriflex cannula, a precision other moulders and mould makers considered impossible when the project started.

Yes. Cemiplast follows the same approach as for Irriflex: initial research, design, prototyping and validation. It also relies on its partner universities and mould makers.

Micro injection moulding makes it possible to produce components that sometimes weigh less than a tenth of a gram. It also ensures very tight tolerances, essential for high-precision dental parts.

Yes. Cemiplast has been ISO 13485 certified since 2016, a standard that governs the manufacture of medical and dental devices.
